INFORMATION ON THE USE OF COOKIES
1. What are Cookies?
Cookies are small text strings that sites visited by the user send to the user’s terminal (usually to the browser), where they are stored in order to be re-transmitted to the same sites the next time the same user visits. In the course of browsing a site, the user may also receive on his terminal equipment cookies that are sent by different sites or web servers (so-called “third parties”), on which some elements (such as, for example, images, maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) present on the site he is visiting may reside. Cookies, usually present in users’ browsers in very large numbers and sometimes also with characteristics of wide temporal persistence, are used for different purposes: performing computer authentication, session monitoring, storing information about specific configurations regarding users accessing the server, choice of consultation language, storage of the shopping cart, etc.
2. What are the main types of Cookies?
In this regard and for the purposes of Order No. 229/2014 of the Privacy Guarantor and the “Guidelines cookies and other tracking tools” of June 10, 2021, two macro-categories are therefore identified: “technical” cookies and “profiling” cookies.
- Technical cookies. Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such service” (see Art. 122(1) of the Privacy Code). They are not used for any further purposes and are normally installed directly by the website owner or operator. They can be divided into navigation or session cookies, which ensure normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas): our site uses non-persistent technical cookies for the sole purpose of improving your browsing experience and allowing you quicker subsequent access; analytics cookies, assimilated to technical cookies where they are used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site itself; functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a set of selected criteria (e.g. language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service rendered to the same. Users’ prior consent is not required for the installation of such cookies.
- Profiling cookies. Profiling cookies are aimed at creating profiles related to the user and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same in the context of web browsing. Due to the particular invasiveness that these devices can have within the private sphere of users, European and Italian regulations provide that the user must be adequately informed about the use of them and thus express his/her valid consent. They are referred to in Article 122 of the Privacy Code where it provides that “the storage of information in the terminal device of a contractor or user or access to information already stored is permitted only on condition that the contractor or user has expressed his or her consent after being informed in the simplified manner referred to in Article 13 Privacy Code, paragraph 3.” Our site does not use profiling cookies.
Session and Persistent Cookies.
Session Cookies, also used by our Site, contain the information that is used in your current browser session. These cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser. Nothing is stored on your computer beyond the time you use the Site.
Persistent Cookies are used to maintain information that is used in between accessing the website, or used for technical purposes and to improve website navigation. This data allows sites to recognize that you are an already known user or visitor and adjust accordingly. “Persistent” cookies have a duration that is set by the website and can range from a few minutes to two years. Our site uses this type of cookies only to enable faster and easier later access and have a duration of one month.
First-party and third-party Cookies It is necessary to take into account the different entity that installs cookies on the user’s terminal, depending on whether it is the same operator of the site the user is visiting (so-called “first-party”) or a different site that installs cookies through the former (so-called “third-party”). First-party Cookies are created and readable by the site that created them. Third-party Cookies, on the other hand, are created and readable by domains outside the site and whose data are stored at the third party. This site uses first-party cookies of a technical nature, for which, as mentioned, no consent is required, only this notice.
